Get to Know the Ruby Necklace

Highlights

This gorgeous sun-loving succulent is native to South Africa and sports ruby-purple vines with either ruby-red or deep green, bean shaped leaves. This plant is also know as a string of rubies, or string of pickles!

Watering

Th Ruby Necklace can retain water for long periods of time, so they do not require regular watering. Allow the soil to dry thoroughly between waterings to avoid root rot - about every other week - and then water well and allow soil to drain. Cut back on watering during the fall and winter months when the plant goes into dormancy.

Sunlight

Like most succulents, your Ruby Necklace prefers bright direct sunlight throughout the year. When given enough light, the leaves turn a stunning ruby-red. These plants will still do well in medium-bright conditions, but the leaves will revert to a deep green.

Pet-Friendly?

No, this succulent is moderately toxic to pets and humans if ingested.

Sad Plant (is your plant dying?)

The Ruby Necklace is prone to root rot if over-watered. Let your plant dry thoroughly and potentially repot in fresh succulent soil if you're worried your plant is suffering from root rot.

Check your Ruby Necklace regularly for common sap-sucking pests like mealybugs. Isolate your plant immediately if you find any, and treat it with neem oil or another natural insecticide, while physically removing the insects.
