Get to Know Burgundy Rubber Plant!

Highlights

This Southeast Asian native will immediately draw your eye to its thick, glossy foot-long leathery leaves tinged with deep purple. New growth has shades of pink within the veins, adding brightness and more color.

Watering

It is better to underwater your Rubber Tree than overwater because over-watering causes yellowing leaves and root rot. To help avoid soggy conditions, make sure your Rubber Tree is placed in well-draining soil (add sand or peat to your potting soil). During the growing season, water thoroughly once the top two inches of the soil are dry.

Sunlight

Rubber plants prefer bright, indirect light, but it will tolerate moderate, indirect sunlight. Avoid fully shaded areas.

Pet-Friendly?

No! This plant is toxic if ingested.

Sad Plant (is your plant dying?)

Here are the steps to save a dying rubber plant:

1. Move the plant to a bright spot where it gets bright indirect light.
2. Check the soil, and make sure the soil is moist but not soggy.
3. Water the plant if the top layer of soil feels dry.
4. Prune any damaged leaves and use a damp cloth to clean the remaining leaves.
5. Provide adequate moisture to the plant.
6. Mist the plant with neem oil solution to eliminate any possible pests.
7. Fertilize the plant in spring and summer to encourage new growth.
