Get to Know Peacock Calathea!

Highlights

The Calathea—characterized by boldly marked, oblong leaves in a dazzling array of colors—includes some of the most beautiful tropical plants in the world. Due to the plants' eye-catching stripes and veining, they're often known by nicknames such as the zebra plant, peacock plant, or rattlesnake plant. Calatheas are also referred to as prayer plants, a common name that other species use as well.

Watering

Water every 1-2 weeks, allowing soil to dry out half way between waterings. Expect to water more often in brighter light and less often in lower light. This plant can benefit from extra humidity. Calatheas can be sensitive to hard tap water. Try using filtered water or leaving water out overnight before using.

Sunlight

Thrives in medium to bright indirect light, but can tolerate low indirect light. Not suited for direct sun.

Sad Plant (is your plant dying?)

Calathea leaves can droop, with the leaf margins turning brown and crispy with a dying appearance due to under watering and low humidity. Calathea is a tropical plant that requires high humidity and moist soil. If the soil dries out or the air is too dry then the calathea leaves wilt and die back.
